The Philae Temple is located on an island near the Aswan Dam where it was moved after the flooding caused by the dam. Philae is one of the places in Egypt where it is claimed that the god Osiris is buried. It was known as "The Unapproachable" since only holy persons were supposed to tread there. Old legends say that birds did not fly near there nor did fish come near. The island near it is said to be infested with snakes and local guides will not take passengers to that deserted island. There was an obelisk here, inscribed with a petition from 2nd Century BC priests to Ptolemy VIII to limit access to the island. This obelisk was used for comparison with the Rosetta Stone, which threw great light on the translation of hieroglyphics.
